The MRG industry operates with a vast number of different compounds formulations to fulfill all the requirements for the numerous specific applications. Carbon Black has various functions in these formulations and improves the performance as

  • A filler with excellent reinforcing properties
  • An effective processing aid
  • A low cost diluent for expensive polymers.

Food contact applications

In recent years numerous regulations have globally been put in place concerning rubber applications with food or skin contact. Some regulations implement direct restrictions on the type and weight percentage of Carbon Blacks, others focus on the final rubber product. Generally, health concerns arise from Polycyclic Armoatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs). Carbon Blacks contain a very low amount of PAHs. Although studies revealed a tight bonding of PAHs to the Carbon Black surface and no migration through the rubber matrix, precautionary limits have been defined. To meet the resulting demand for compliant Carbon Blacks, we have developed the PUREX® product family of clean MRG grades with an reduced PAH content.
